Miller-Motte Technical College opened its campus on Frontage Road off Bobby Jones Expressway in October.

"We look forward to building strong relationships here in the community," Campus Director Kerrie Tobias-Roth said at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Metro Augusta and Columbia County chambers of commerce on Thursday. "We also look forward to building futures and changing lives."

About 200 students are attending the college, which offers a variety of programs including cosmetology, dental assisting, health information technology, human resource management, massage therapy, security and investigation, clinical office assistant, medical billing and coding, office assistant, laboratory assistant and laboratory technician.

"We have a lot of medical programs," Director of Career Services Director Allison Leonard said of adapting the programs to the large medical community in the Augusta area.

Leonard said the medical lab technician program is one that hasn't been offered locally in a decade.

The Augusta campus is one of about 36 in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee.

With eight to 10 teachers, Admissions Representative Kristin Whitfield said the college offers small class sizes, for a more one-on-one learning experience.

"The faculty is really able to focus on the students," Whitfield said as she gave tours of the building during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
